Other Activities

Apart from the superb golf,  the region has plenty of other activities to offer as well.

You can enjoy the countryside, experience a taste of France at a regional market or at any of the superb vineyards along the Loire Valley, explore the rich & varied history of the area, visit some superb gardens or just relax in the sunshine and mess about on the river.

Here is a small sample of what is available. You can rest assured that we will do our best whilst you are here to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

MUSEUMS

There is a wide choice of museums in the area. For example, learn about the famous Cointreau spirit, which has been produced in Angers since 1849,  or visit the air museum close to Angers airport, with a large collection of early aircraft. For something altogether different, why not go to the Chateau de Pignerolle which has a fascinating communications museum?

CASTLES and CHATEAUX

The Loire Valley has been designated a World Heritage Site, and it is little wonder, given the plethora of ancient chateaux in the region.

Most notable of those in our local area is Le Plessis-Bourré (pictured above). In nearby Angers, you can explore the old chateau and city ramparts - once home to Henri d’Anjou, who, later became the King of England (Henry II).

A little further afield, you may like to explore other towns and chateaus at Saumur, Chinon, Tours, Amboise, Brissac, ….. The list is endless!

HORSES

Our region is famous for horse-related activities.

There are several race-courses nearby, offering French trotting (with chariots) as well as the more usual flat/jump season.

At Lion d’Angers, you can visit the National Stud and be taken on a tour of the facilities and, if you prefer to get more involved, you can go trekking across the local countryside.

In October, the  course hosts the “Mondial du Lion”, part of the European 3-day eventing championships.

ON THE RIVER

The beautiful Mayenne river is only  minutes away, with superb towpath walks, plentiful fishing,  and tranquil picnic spots to while away a sunny afternoon.

You can hire bicycles to explore the towpaths, and there are several river cruises available (some offering dinner-cruises). Alternatively, you can hire an electric boat or go paddling in a canoe. In Angers, there is also a lake for windsurfing.
